Couples often seek counseling when they are at an impasse and perhaps are feeling disconnected, stuck, confused, or overwhelmed by the struggles experienced in the relationship. Whatever your reason for seeking support in your relationship, I am here to help you and your partner better understand the dynamics at play that are contributing to your hardship and to assist you in finding your way back into fulfilling connection with one another. Together we will work to understand your painful patterns, cycles, and struggles. Often at the root of couples issues, (such as conflict, resentment, communication issues, mistrust, disconnection, sexual issues etc.) we find insecurities, unmet needs, and old hurts. In our work together, I aim to support both partners in learning how to truly hear one another, how to process painful feelings in an honest and supportive way, and ultimately to assist you in creating healthier ways of relating to one another. Couples therapy tends to work best for couples who are motivated to improve their connection; those who want to feel closer and more satisfied in the relationship but may feel at a loss of how to get there. However, if you and/or your partner are ambivalent about the relationship, couples therapy can be a place to clarify if/how you want to move forward in the relationship.

My work with couples is rooted in attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology. I draw heavily on emotionally-focused couples therapy and PACT couples therapy, which both aim to understand attachment dynamics and unmet needs often underlying the unique issues that couples face. I approach couples therapy from a systems perspective which looks at struggles within the couple relationship as circular and intertwined. From this orientation, no one person is seen to be at fault as both partners involved contribute to issues in the relationship. My role as a couples therapist is not to take sides or point out what any one person is doing wrong, but rather to help you understand these often painful cyclical relationship patterns and ultimately to help you create healthier, more secure ways of relating and interacting.

If you are interested in pursuing couples therapy, I encourage you to reach out. I offer a 15 minute phone consultation so we can see if you and your partner would be a good fit in working together. My current rate for couples therapy is $180 per hour long session.
